She Rises:
A Women’s Health Series

Health for You, Me, and All of Us

Your Invitation to She Rises

Fazilah Shariff
Curator, Living in Full Series

Welcome to She Rises: A Women’s Health Series. This isn’t your typical lecture. It’s a space where real talk meets fresh ideas, where women (and those who care about them) can explore health in all its dimensions — from everyday habits that boost energy to the bigger forces shaping our communities.

Think of it as part toolkit, part conversation, and part inspiration. Each event brings together voices from medicine, wellness, and lived experience to spark insight and connection. Because when women thrive, families flourish, communities strengthen, and everyone benefits.

What We Explore

Why Women’s Health Matters

Women’s health is about more than medical care — it’s about creating the conditions for women to live well, thrive, and contribute fully to their families, workplaces, and communities. When women are healthy, everyone benefits.

But the reality is, women continue to face unique challenges and systemic gaps:

  • Research gaps: For decades, women were underrepresented in medical research. This means treatments, medications, and even diagnostic criteria were designed around men’s bodies, leaving women at risk of misdiagnosis or ineffective treatment.

  • Different symptoms, delayed diagnoses: Conditions like heart disease, ADHD, and autoimmune disorders often present differently in women — but healthcare systems still default to a “male standard.” The result: women wait longer for diagnoses, and their concerns are more likely to be dismissed.

  • Mental health matters: Women experience higher rates of anxiety, depression, and trauma, often connected to social pressures, caregiving demands, and gender-based violence. These issues are real health challenges that deserve as much attention as physical illness.

  • Chronic conditions: Women are more likely to live with autoimmune conditions, osteoporosis, thyroid disorders, migraines, and chronic pain. Yet many struggle to find providers who understand the complexity of their experiences.

  • Social and cultural factors: Health isn’t shaped by biology alone. Work, caregiving roles, financial strain, cultural stigma, and inequities in healthcare access all directly affect women’s health outcomes.

So What?

  • When women have the knowledge and resources to care for their health, they can show up more fully for themselves, their families, and their communities.

  • Strong women’s health systems reduce the burden of chronic illness, prevent long-term complications, and improve overall community well-being.

  • Prioritizing women’s health is not just the right thing to do — it’s a public health investment that benefits everyone.

That’s why She Rises exists: to close the information gap, amplify women’s voices, and provide clear, evidence-based knowledge so women can make informed decisions about their health.
